I first heard about this book from a friend and just had to get it after looking into it a bit. That day I got it in EBook format and was done with it in about 2 hours. I loved it, it was a teenager’s outlook on high school and boys and friendship.
So this book ill give 4/5 stars.

Lissa was a control freak who has major OCD issues. She was beautiful and strong and just set in her way.

Cash….well I would totally like to date him. The school flirt, totally hot but you cant get anywhere with  him. By the end i was inlove.

Randy, well words really cant describe how much I dislike him. He comes off as the nice caring boyfriend but really just is a complete a**.

Chloe, she’s Lissa’s best friend and is known as the school sl*t but really just because she’s honest about her s*x life doesn’t mean she is any of the things people call her. She isn’t ready to settle down with a guy and just knows what she likes, she isn’t mean about it and is a lovely person who would do anything for her friend. She would have to be my second favorite character.

Now down to my final character who happens to be my favorite. Nothing much is said about her but I feel like I must tell people the little bit about her because she is so worth hearing about, Mary. Her name says it all, she’s sweet and young and totally in love with her huge footballer boyfriend. She’s the only girl who is honest about herself. Throughout this book she’s a small role but I just love how caring and sweet and young she is and how she reminds me of that little sister I have to protect from everything bad.

So go ahead and give this book a read because its fun, light and really enjoyable.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

Pain and loss are two things that aren’t new to Charlie. Having dealt with the death of his aunt Helen as a young child and then the suicide of his closest friend Michael last summer, he knows it all too well. Charlie’s story is told through a series of letters to an anonymous source. He suffers severe depression that originated when he was sexually abused as a child.

Charlie is caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it. Once Charlie starts high school he is quite quick to make friends with Patrick, the class clown from his shop class at a football game. He meets Sam, Patrick’s stepsister shortly thereafter, who he mistakes as Patrick’s girlfriend.

Sam & Patrick are starting their senior year as Charlie starts his freshman year. He is quickly thrust into a world of partying, sex, drinking, drugs, love and the Rocky Horror Picture Show. This just made me love the book even more because I love that movie and at the time that I first read the book I was going through the same sorts of things that Charlie and his new friends do and I was able to relate to his character.

Charlie has supportive parents but seems to be a bit lost between his old brother and sister. He was closest to his aunt Helen, who he states was “his favourite person in the whole world”. She died in a car accident the night of Charlie’s 7th birthday when she went to get his birthday present. Since then he has had a deep guilt, believing that it was his fault.

Patrick to Charlie acts as if he is always happy, positive and he’s up for anything. But there seems to be a lot more to Patrick than we originally think, and that he just holds a lot deep down inside. Patrick is nicknamed ‘Nothing’ by his shop teacher in a comment that backfires a when he says “You either call me Patrick or you call me Nothing” of course everyone took that as an invitation. Although he may be nothing to some, he is certainly not nothing to Brad, the schools quarterback who Patrick is secretly in a relationship with. Patrick says” he wasn't sad because at least now, Brad doesn't have to get drunk or stoned to make love."

Right throughout this book Charlie is forced to try and comprehend new thoughts, desires and feelings. Charlie falls for Sam. Sam is dating Craig who is about 3 years older than she is. She’s someone that Charlie can turn to for advice and support, a non-judgmental shoulder to lean on. She also has an awesome taste in music, so that’s a big plus!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of my favourite books of all time.  From start to finish I could not put it down and it felt as though Charlie was writing to me personally. I would and already have recommended it to everyone. I even made my English teacher in my senior years of high school read it. This coming-of-age story is both emotional and raw and is a story that you will remember long after you turn the last page.

A book of many very powerful quotes but I will leave you with one.

"So I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons and maybe we'll never know most of them but even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things and we can try to feel okay about them." - Charlie

Wither by Lauren Destefano

Wither by Lauren Destefano

Book Blurb

In our brave new future, DNA engineering has resulted in a terrible genetic flaw. Women die at the age of 20, men at 25. Young girls are being abducted and forced to breed in a desperate attempt to keep humanity ahead of the disease that threatens to eradicate it.
16-year-old Rhine Ellery is kidnapped and sold as a bride to Linden, a rich young man with a dying wife. Even though he is kind to her, Rhine is desperate to escape her gilded cage – and Linden’s cruel father. With the help of Gabriel, a servant she is growing dangerously attracted to, Rhine attempts to break free, in what little time she has left.

Fantastic Fiction Book Description

By age sixteen, Rhine Ellery has four years left to live. She can thank modern science for this genetic time bomb. A botched effort to create a perfect race has left all males with a lifespan of 25 years, and females with a lifespan of 20 years. Geneticists are seeking a miracle antidote to restore the human race, desperate orphans crowd the population, crime and poverty have skyrocketed, and young girls are being kidnapped and sold as polygamous brides to bear more children.

When Rhine is kidnapped and sold as a bride, she vows to do all she can to escape. Her husband, Linden, is hopelessly in love with her, and Rhine can't bring herself to hate him as much as she'd like to. He opens her to a magical world of wealth and illusion she never thought existed, and it almost makes it possible to ignore the clock ticking away her short life. But Rhine quickly learns that not everything in her new husband's strange world is what it seems. Her father-in-law, an eccentric doctor bent on finding the antidote, is hoarding corpses in the basement. Her fellow sister wives are to be trusted one day and feared the next, and Rhine is desperate to communicate to her twin brother that she is safe and alive. Will Rhine be able to escape--before her time runs out?

I ordered this book online after reading about it online, I waited a few weeks before it finally was released and came in the mail. I started reading it that second and whilst it started off great I slowed down towards the middle. A good book that by the end I found a great book. Set in the future it gives you a look into what  a desperate race would do in order to save itself, kidnapping young girls and forcing them to have babies when they themselves are still babies.
Before Wither arrived I read a few reviews by people whom had received an ARC and they were negative, giving me the impression the book wasn’t that good but saying that, I gave the book a chance and once finished I cannot wait for the second installment in the series.
I give this book 4/5 stars. Its written well and I want to continue reading the series but when in the middle it dropped off I think that’s where it lost its star. I would still recommend people read this because whilst it might not be my favorite I still loved it, it could also end up being your favorite if you just give it a chance.

Rhine- Beautiful, strong and smart, all the things we want in a main character yet I still found something missing. More needed to be said about her growing up.

Linden- is a sweet caring man,its heartbreaking to see him so upset in parts of this book. He is sweet to all the girls he marries and doesn’t push them into anything. He might be sweet but I still am very disgusted at him and the fact that he lets his father control him and his life.

Gabriel is that guy you just love, almost every book has one. He is sweet and funny and totally loyal to those he cares about.

Overall I say its not a bad book, I enjoyed it and whilst its not in my top 10 its still pretty high up. I love how it will make you cry and laugh and all those things a good book can make you do whilst still living in a fantasy world.

Fantastic Fiction Book Description

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

I picked this book up at Kmart one day when I was moving and all my books were in storage, needless to say I was going insane without a good book to tide me over. This proved to be the perfect book. Although it only took me a few hours to start and finish since I was so into it, it was 2 days before I put it down. I reread and went back just to make sure I got every last detail permanently wedged into my brain.
So I give this book 5/5 stars, it was one of the best books i read in 2012 and im looking forward to the chance to read the second installment (bought and paid for and now just waiting for it to be released and shipped)
Some of the Characters.
America Singer: Well, she’s beautiful, funny and although rebellious she does so much for her family. Starting with actually entering and accepting to go into THE SELECTION when she was in love with another. Throughout the book I couldn’t help but wish I was her and have that perfect guy who was my best friend but could be so much more if I just let it happen.
Maxon: WOW!! He was not what you expect a prince to be like but it goes to show that even the rich, famous and powerful aren’t all bad. Hes the guy im rooting for and America is so lucky to have him care so much about her, hes funny, good to talk to and seems to honestly care what she has to say.
Aspen: He comes off as a total butthead….Id say something more but there is children on here and whilst they might know worse words I wont be the one to teach them that its ok to use them.
He used America and was bringing her down and just didn’t seem to really care about her. I know he did in his own way and he loved her but it felt like more of a possession thing then actual true love.  He has had a hard life but that’s no excuse for how he acts, he needs to get a wake up call.

So the book overall was just fantastic, set in the future where classes taken to the extreme, having to marry by class and never being able to work up to anything better then what you were born into. This world is sad a cruel in that the lower classes work so many hour with hardly time to sleep yet get nothing much to show for it if anything at all. If you are a lower class you are treated that way by those above you. The lower classes cannot afford basic things and those who are in an ok class still struggle when it’s the off season for work. Your class also dictates what you job will be and the only way you can go up a class is if you marry but that rarely happens more then 1 class up.
So when American who was a middle class had the opportunity to enter THE SELECTION (a competition to compete for the heart of the prince to become queen) her mother jumped at the chance. America though, was in love with another whom her family didn’t know about and did not want to enter, her mother won in the end and she entered the competition thinking she would never win. SHOCKER she won! She was one of the few girls selected to compete. Whilst she didn’t want to go she did and when the met Maxon she couldn’t help but be attracted to him and him to her. Aspen shows up being a guard at the palace…….So by the end of the book its still unsure as to what will happen, who will she choose?
To those who haven’t read this book READ IT! It is amazing, futuristic in how its set out but yet its like going back in time to a dark place we never want to be again. The book itself is sweet and amazingly written and doesn’t come off as dark so no need to worry if you aren’t into dark books but after you read it do sit down and think about what your life would be like if you lived in that world.
